In British Columbia, film production incentives are offered as tax credits. Here are the details regarding the types available:

  1. Basic Post-Production Credit:

    • A base credit of 16% for eligible post-production labor expenses incurred in BC, irrespective of the location of the principal photography.

  2. Digital Animation, Visual Effects (DAVE) and Post-Production (DAVE+P) Tax Credit:

    • An additional 16% credit on eligible labor expenses specifically related to digital animation or visual effects.

  3. Regional Bonus:

    • Productions conducting post-production outside the Vancouver Metropolitan Area can qualify for an additional 6% credit, making it possible to receive a total of 22% for labor spent on DAVE activities in designated distant locations.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The production company must be Canadian with a permanent establishment in British Columbia.

  • At least 75% of the post-production costs must be incurred in British Columbia.

  • The production must meet certain labor expenditure thresholds, ensuring that a significant portion of the work is carried out by BC residents.

Application Process:

  • To apply for these tax credits, the production company needs to file an application with Creative BC, which manages the film and media incentives in the province.

  • Detailed documentation of expenditures, labor costs, and other relevant financial records must be submitted as part of the application.

For detailed information or to start the application process, interested parties should contact Creative BC directly:
