Foxtrot X-Ray took point on creating the visual effects for this dark pop music video by friend and collaborator Miss Krystle, titled ‘Monster.’ In the video, Krystle plays a super-powered being inspired by the Scarlet Witch and the Dark Phoenix of Marvel Comics. Protected from the outside world by her husband, Krystle becomes the subject of a manhunt by some shadowy government agents, with tragic consequences. The majority of the shots altered by Foxtrot X-Ray included large scale energy/power expulsion, force fields, and laser weapons. The energy and power effects, and the force fields were fully created in the compositing stage of the VFX process using Nuke’s 3D pipeline. At the end of the video, Foxtrot X-Ray provided a large-scale, world destruction sequence that relied heavily on the proprietary energy effects created earlier in the music video, alongside complex CG renders of cracking ground, and a planet shattering into smaller pieces. This was a fun project to work on, as it allowed us to play with some more in-your-face VFX than we normally get to do! The fun part about a highly stylized project like this one is that it allows us to explore what kind of cool and flashy effects we can come up with. These kinds of VFX heavy projects allow for the most collaborative workflows between directors, producers, and artists.
