Max Fist (Joe Manganiello) is a hard-drinking homeless man who claims to have been a superhero in a world called Chromium. He says that while he was battling his nemesis Cleo and trying to protect his world from her evil doomsday device, he slipped through an opening between time and space and crashed on Earth, where his powers are inert. Aspiring journalist Hamster (Skylan Brooks) interviews Max and slowly becomes his friend. Meanwhile, Hamster's sister Indigo (Zolee Griggs) works for a drug dealer called "The Manager" (Glenn Howerton), hoping to make a better life for herself and her brother. When Indigo tries to make a break, an all-out war starts, and Max must help his new friends. (IMDb)
Foxtrot X-Ray created 130+ VFX shots for Adam Egypt Mortimer’s dark and intense new take on the superhero genre. Our work included digi-doubles, cleanup, set enhancement, digital environments, wire removal, bullet impacts, glass damage, and the all-important “cosmic blood” that gives Joe Manganiello’s character Max Fist his powers. VFX was also used to create several gunfire effects during an action-packed fight scene.
Using VFX to create gunfire is an effective way to maintain safety during production. To learn more about firearms safety on film sets, listen to Paul DeNigris discuss firearms and VFX with multiple filmmakers on the VFX for Indies podcast.
Other projects featuring similar effects by Foxtrot X-Ray include Max Reload and the Nether Blasters, Vendetta, and The Legend of La Llorona.
