A handyman living in New York City is mistaken for a famous and famously reclusive writer and brought to a university where he is to deliver a keynote address. (IMDb)
Foxtrot X-Ray provided nearly 60 VFX shots for this quirky indie starring Michael Shannon and an all-star supporting cast. At first this wouldn’t appear to be a film that would need extensive visual effects, but Foxtrot X-Ray provided support in some key areas such as numerous cleanup shots, sign replacements, and screen comps, as well as the creation of a water stain in Shriver’s ceiling that is of significance to the plot. But VFX also helped solve a significant scheduling issue. The film’s production shut down for 400 days due to COVID and when production resumed, one of the cast members wasn’t able to shoot the film’s climax when the key location was available. The producers consulted with Foxtrot X-Ray on how best to tackle this problem and we guided them through a greenscreen solution. The result was a believable and creative solution to a complicated production issue. This is a great use case for VFX as both a creative tool and a method of solving unfortunate production dilemmas.
Other projects featuring similar effects by Foxtrot X-Ray include “Count to Zero”, Fluorescent Beast, and Forever Home.
