“I’ve worked with Foxtrot X-Ray on two movies now and can say with confidence that everything about them - their artistry, craft, design aesthetic, professionalism and enthusiasm - is beyond excellent. Paul and his team come to the table with terrific creative ideas that push the quality of the work far beyond any original expectations I had going in. ”

Foxtrot X-Ray provided over 110 VFX shots for Paul Osborne’s dark comedy Fluorescent Beast. This was our second collaboration with Paul Osborne after working with him on Cruel Hearts. Many shots entailed completely replacing a painting which is pivotal to the story. The painting is ultimately set on fire and destroyed, an effect which was achieved entirely with VFX, providing a much safer set environment during production. Foxtrot X-Ray also provided many shots which were used to enhance the strange and off-putting nature the film is meant to provoke. This included completely removing signs in a mall to achieve an eerily empty atmosphere. Foxtrot X-Ray also used VFX to enhance the unique performance of a critical character by removing all her blinking in the film. These shots required tracking the actor’s face, then blending over frozen frames of her eyes to hide every instance of blinking. This enhanced her performance as being strangely robotic, a fittingly stylistic choice for her role in the story. Additional effects included paint outs, screen comps, and gunfire.
Using VFX to create gunfire is an effective way to maintain safety during production. To learn more about firearms safety on film sets, listen to Paul DeNigris discuss firearms and VFX with multiple filmmakers on the VFX for Indies podcast.
