Foxtrot X-Ray created about 60 VFX shots for this Lifetime movie, mostly screen comps and social media graphics, with some extra fun interactive layouts like the centerpiece hallway sequence that took diegetic phone graphics to the interpretive diegetic space. For this sequence the main character, Kristen, is walking down a hallway at her school while side characters are looking at phones and judging her. Rather than cutting away to show what the side characters are looking at, the filmmakers wanted to keep the focus on her. To accomplish this we match-moved the camera down the hallway, and then created phone UI elements to place into the 3D space. Taking inspiration from the hallway sequence, several text messages appear in the “semi diegetic” space. Alongside the hallway sequence and floating text messages, there was a large amount of screen replacements that required a full rebuild of UI elements to create custom web pages and text messages to help tell the story. Our motion graphics team used existing branding initially created by the art department, and adapted that branding into a cohesive feel for several websites shown in the film.
